A Letter From Our VP of Philanthropy, EMILY QUINONES

The first round I had for sorority recruitment was Alpha Chi Omega Philanthropy round. I had come to Clemson from out of state and had no one I knew, what rush would be like, and not even that much about Clemson. However, I knew that I wanted a chapter that cared about their philanthropy. As nervous as I was, Alpha Chi Omega was the perfect first stop, not only because of how welcome I felt, but because I knew their love for their philanthropy was genuine. Every member is devoted to our philanthropy, domestic violence awareness. I was so moved as I sat in the first row while hearing a sister bravely pour her heart out about her own experience, and seeing other sisters supporting her through this speech. I knew this was a loving and supportive sisterhood, and each member put their all into their philanthropy. I was even lucky to talk to the VP of Philanthropy, and see her love for her sisters and the position. As I became lucky enough to become this year's VP of Philanthropy, she was the first person I texted when I got the job. Alpha Chi Omega is a proud supporter of domestic violence awareness nationally. Theta Lambda serves this purpose by aiding local domestic violence shelters like Safe Harbor. Through fundraising and volunteering our time, each of our members strives to assist the Safe Harbor shelters and organization in any and all needs they may have. One in every four women in this country are victims of domestic violence— as Alpha Chis we strive to bring awareness to this statistic, as well as advocate for these women. The motto "Real. Strong. Women" could not be more applicable to our chapter and the amazing women that I serve with. I am so proud of my sisters and admire each of them for either dedication to our philanthropy.

AXOXO, EMILY

Walk-A-Mile (In Her Shoes)

Each October, Alpha Chi Omega hosts Walk-A-Mile (In Her Shoes). Campus organizations compete in the event by running a lap around the quad in the event's infamous red high heels. With the relay-style event, teams compete in support of Domestic Violence Awareness. Included with admission to the event is food and live music.

Love Is Campaign

Every February, Alpha Chi Omega participates in Healthy Relationships Week. Our sisters promote healthy relationships on campus and share what "Love is" to them. Since 2014, we have participated in the "Love Is" campaign by setting up a table on Library Bridge, and encouraging students and faculty to write what love means to them and to put their hand print on our wooden letters, signifying unity. These letters are used in our chapter’s philanthropy round of recruitment. Sisters spread awareness and fundraise via social media.

Denim Day

Denim Day is a campaign in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Wearing denim signifies standing with those who are survivors. Sisters paint denim on the Quad to wear, and campus involvement is encouraged and demonstrated.
